Bill created some pretty awesome pieces for VS this weekend, an art show curated by Daisy Church for Mission Comics. VS is a Show of Opposites, reeling together twenty Bay Area and Los Angeles artists’ interpretations of pitting this versus that. (Cue Black Sheep.)

Alina Chau • Denise “Dee” Chavez • Daisy Church

Sherry Delorme • Anand Duncan • Ashley Fisher

Liana Hee • Ryan Hungerford • Wednesday Kirwan

Karen Krajenbrink • Steph Laberis • Erin Leong

Shiu Pei Luu • Cat Maske • Sho Murase

Bill Robinson • Emma Sancartier • Chris Vear • Katherine Waddell

Out of Bill’s Mickey vs. Oswald, Maru vs. Box, Harry vs. Voldemort, and 8-Bit Mario vs. 64-Bit Mario, guess which one’s my favorite? (Hint: I ALREADY PUT IT AT THE TOP.)

Mickey vs Oswald Bill Robinson Flimflammery
Maru vs Box Bill Robinson Flimflammery
Harry Potter vs Lord Voldemort Bill Robinson Flimflammery
8 Bit vs 64 Bit Mario Bill Robinson Flimflammery

The Bay Area animation scene seems to have been fairly quiet recently (I blame the artists’ full-time jobs in social gaming and evenings swallowed up by the Animation Collaborative.), so I’m actually really excited to have a reason to to brave some SF winter for the opening. There is much potential to make it a full-on Mission Business Night: Mission Cheese, Mission Chinese Food, Mission Pie, Mission Comics! The itinerary practically writes itself.

VS: A Show of Opposites
New Works by SF and LA Artists
February 4 – March 3, 2012
Opening Reception February 4, 2012
7-10 p.m.

Mission Comics & Art
3520 20th St. Suite B
San Francisco, CA 94110

Today is the day! Jessica (Adventures of Yoshi), Rachel (Raaachem), and I are hosting Poshmark’s least girly Poshmark Party ever, “Street Style Chic Party.” Poshmark’s first bicoastal mobile event is happening tonight, right in the Poshmark app! You may have seen last week’s feature in Refinery 29, or you may have seen my umpteen Twitter and Facebook updates about it, but for final review:

  1. Poshmark is an iPhone app that allows you to list, sell, shop, and buy – All right from your phone.
  2. Jess, Rachel, and I have been combing our closets for weeks in preparation! You’re gonna like the way you look (provided that you buy our stuff, which I promise is in great-to-excellent condition).

Poshmark just launched this month, making you, my friend, a potential early adopter. Think of our li’l Poshmark Party as a trunk show of stuff that our picky selves selected. I’ve basically gone through my wardrobe with my Tough Love Goggles on – Haven’t worn it in a year? It’s time it moved on. And trust me, I’m happy to try anything that involves not going to Buffalo to have my time wasted by a freshman “buyer” who just wants to pay for her Bachelors in Political Science and unwarranted affinity for American Apparel.

So what am I selling? A few of my accessories that span the streetwear-glam rock-urban-yet-gilded age. Black and whites of some of what I’ll be offering are below. Tune in at 8 PST in the Poshmark app to see the full color versions and have all your “But how awesome is it?” questions answered!

fela kuti, fela!, san francisco

It was a time when you could walk into a club and meet someone who could turn your world upside down.

Fela! at The Curran
I’m still in the midst of a week that’s actually ten-days long, and not seven (and certainly not the work version of five). Yet one experience has been repeatedly surfacing to the top of my mind during every blip of downtime. Last week Fela! (You know: Produced by Jay-Z, Will, and Jada. Directed and choreographed by Bill T. Jones. Seen eight times by Spike Lee.) opened at the Curran in San Francisco, and I’m still reeling in the energy and the discourse. I was really lucky to be able to catch the show twice, once on opening night and again when the original Sandra Isadore attended herself. Continue reading »

Bill is exhibiting at CTN Animation Expo for its third year this weekend, and I’m looking forward to joining him! (Note: My title is no longer “Booth Babe.”) It’s the second time he’s showing off M is for Mutt, and hopefully the book’s wordsmith, Ian, will be around, too. It’s also holiday greeting card time, and I may or may not have lended (WordPress tells me “lended” is not a word. Whatever.) my creative juices to one of the designs in this post. (Guess which one. [Hint: It is very fabulous.]) Continue reading »

It’s here! It’s here! My new brightly colored (The palette is named “Hard Candy,” thankyouverymuch.) fixie has arrived, courtesy of Mahfia and Mixie. I’ve just set it up with a new seat, kickstand, lights, and basket – All just in time for the SF Bike Expo!

I’ll be there Saturday to attempt to cut my teeth among throngs of far more knowledgeable cyclists. Since I’m nothing of a hardcore or industrial rider, I’m going to be in ultimate sponge mode. There’s a lot going on that day, from live demonstrations to a Pedal Savvy fashion show to custom frame building.
