Finally saw it. Want the clothes. (That Oscars nom for Mark Bridges is not to be taken lightly. If you’re in New York, please check out the Motion Picture Costume Design Exhibition at FIDM to see his Artist works in color.)
The piece that I’m most in love with, though, is a super luxurious fur coat that Bérénice Bejo wears in the final scenes of the movie, in her infatuated, generous heroine hour. It’s impossible to find online (though I invite you to prove me wrong and share the link), probably because they’re trying to keep those closing moments exclusive to the folks who’ve actually seen the movie. So basically, after the Oscars and another chance for The Artist to blow up across the world, you can expect a lot of people falling over themselves for the coat.
In commentary venturing outside of what piqued my fashion interest, The Artist really is a good movie. It’s not a personal favorite, but it was very well done and complete. I’m super curious how one goes about pitching a black and white silent film to the Brothers Weinstein, but in the end I’m glad they took a chance on this project.
If my eyebrows had half as much character as Jean Dujardin’s they’d star in their own made-for-TV movie on Lifetime.
