Did last week happen yet? Cause seriously I don’t know what time is anymore.
Last Monday, you probably saw my Tweets a-blazin’. GHOSTFACE THIS! SWIZZ BEATZ THAT! There was so much going on, my iPhone deserves a major pat on the back for powering through it all.
Let’s get started, yeah? Everybody,
Did you say “Yeah” yet? Okay.
Kim, Julie, and I started off at S.L.A.T.E.’s special edition of Rock the Bells in the House of Blues (Mandalay Bay). Head to the concert early? Yes we did. Why? Because the Fingerbangerz were spinning! That 408 crew has a brilliant name, amazing talent, and they’ve been doing the mixes for the Jabbawockeez before there was an ABDC. Be impressed.
Immah skip backwards, before the solid performances by the Fresno rappers who were actually quite decent and had me yelling “FRES-YES!” to this, this one particular life-changing moment. We were entering the HOB. And some guy goes: “Dude! It’s Raekwon!” And some other guy goes “And Ghostface!” Guy 1: “It’s fucking Raekwon and Ghostface!”
The headliners of the night were obviously on the hunt for some grub, Raekwon’s associate equipped with a plate of fried foods in hand. Fans pushed tickets, show books, anything paper in their faces hoping to get an autograph, but the Wu did not oblige. Feeling daring in my swanky new Miss Sixty dress, I stalked Ghostface and said, “Excuse me, can I get a picture with you?” He turned his head as he continued walking, looked at me, and said, “Come on, baby!”
BAM.
The pic is fuzzy with all the excitement in the air. How delighted was I to be there that night? How much did I kick myself for not buying the Ghostface Killah doll ahead of time and having Ghostface sign it? Ah well, I’ll live. Wipe the drool off your face.
The night could have gone horribly wrong at that point, and I would have not cared. Fortunately for all of us, it just got better.
Part II of the evening involved running into Jeff of AKOO (More from them later!) as we all entered the experience that was the Reebok Classics/Complex party. There’s much I could say about this event, but first I must say, thank you, Marie! (Miss Curvy Fashionista was one of my favorite in-real-life meet-ups out of the entire trade show.) There are many videos I could edit (if I had the time). But instead, I’m just going to say one thing after I warn you that I’m about to spew imagery: BRANDING.
Funny thing about seeing Swizz Beatz live: It’s like one big medley of hooks. Entertaining, but also very reminiscent of “Party Shuffle” mode.
And then this little surprise:

Chris Brown took his shirt off during "Dance Like a White Girl." At a party for the apparel industry. Oh, the irony! Photo courtesy of Reebok Classics.
More fun awaited us at the Foundation Room, where a zillion and one pretty amazing international DJs spun for POOL Trade Show. And then this guy:

This postcard-worthy view probably now lives in the phones of anyone who needed a breather on the patio that night.
My new favorite crazy dress!

I look so overposed next to Wendy. Not that the dress didn't already do that on its own. Looove her Balenciagas! Photo by Kim Woo.
Thanks for the memories, MAGIC!
