Happy Adopt-a-Cat Month!

Sante D'OrIan and Michael (The latter provides the authentic Scotsman voiceover in the above video.) took me to a cat store in Los Feliz over Memorial Day weekend. Sante D’Or was unlike any pet adoption facility I’ve been to. It was so comfy! And not just for me, but for the critters looking for new homes: cats, rabbits, puppies, and a back room full of kittens. Well-adjusted cats get to walk around and lie about on their own, which means that once you’ve Purelled and signed in to Sante D’Or, you’re immediately face-to-face with fat cats perched on top of carpeted pillars who just know how impossible it is for you not to pet them.

Sante D'Or

This was my favorite kitty. He has Adidas/anime stripes on both of his cheeks.

The adoption center (a non-profit run by volunteers) is open Friday through Sunday, and even though the puppy I met had more interest in chewing my earrings than being my arm candy, I highly recommend the visit. If you’re like me and you can’t live without looking at domesticated animals despite the fact that you have a strict no-pets policy on your lease, you can keep up with Sante D’Or’s new arrivals on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. (Three cheers for non-profits maximizing the reach of their messages through social media!)

More cuteness here.

Editor’s Note: If you’re keeping notes, October is Adopt-a-Dog Month, or, as I like to call it: Find Mayka a 3-bed/2-bath house in the Bay Area that allows gargantuan mutts.
