How quickly “I am not going to WonderCon this year” turned into “Free pass? Well, I guess I’ll be in the city anyway.” The crowds still drain me, there was an increase in furry representation, and I didn’t see a lot of “new” things, but there was still much to be enjoyed. Some visual notes:
The big score of the day was this one-of-a-kind Becky Dreistadt (Tiny Kitten Teeth) commission of that darn cat, Maru! Dreistadt has a definite way with drawing cats, and when Bill said “Can I get a commission?” I immediately jumped in with “OF MARU?”
We’re so excited about this! A Maru shrine is forming in our house. (Next to the Harry Potter shrine. No shame.) Plans are in store to cobble together a cardboard box for a frame.
Another Becky Dreistadt creation. I don’t think you can get any more perfect for a cat-loving hipster – unless it was printed on the inside of an old band tee found a la dumpster diving find instead of on a blank T-shirt.
Pretty amazing sculpts from Minefield Wonderland:
Bill on the escalator. With friend.
I didn’t take this pic but I felt an odd, creepy draw to this little guy. I kind of regret not buying it – His name is “Trail.” – and surprising Bill by waking him up to Trail on his pillow. A Sawdust Bear creation, image from her blog:
Oh, who am I kidding? I’ll probably be there next year.
