A greater lesson from all of this (aside from the redeeming qualities of the human heart) is that these little biological discoveries are more common than we think. As soon as I posted about the discovery in my chest, I started receiving messages to my personal, Maykazine, Facebook, and work inboxes about other women’s tumor and cyst discoveries. It’s not like we talk about this stuff openly at the water cooler, so I really had no idea how prolific this issue was, nor how much it is not the end of anyone’s world.

Special thanks to the men in my life who showed concern, too. Thank you for not thinking about my boob in a gross way.

That said, if you find a lump in your chest and it sometimes hurts, it’s very likely benign. Meanwhile, if you find a lump in your chest and it doesn’t hurt, it could be a sign of cancer. Go figure.
