Like fast fashion, these played to our obsession with novelty and speed, and like fast fashion they were a boom-time trend that turned out to be quite well-suited to a recession. The very fact that WWD just declared them dead means that temporary stores have hit a certain level of critical mass.

Editor’s Note: So weird reading stuff like “Of the Decade.” I tend to not spend a lot of energy processing titles and breeze over them enough to just get the subject down. In the case of Top XX List, I get to a point where I’m like, “Isn’t this a derr?” Then I read the “…of the Decade” part, and I’m reminded of what an entirely different world I was surrounded by when I was sixteen.
