Above one-liner is from The Grouch’s “The Bay to LA.”
Two weeks ago the Guardian hosted its 35th annual Best of the Bay party. I was supposed to check wristbands for the VIP booth, but Mezzanine’s resident 300-pound gorilla declined my offer to fulfill my job and assist. Something about them wanting someone who could be mean and there not being enough space for two people. Oh well!
This turn of events gave me more time to hoard Virgin America discount vouchers, scarf creme brulee and cupcakes, and chat up Third Eye Blind’s former lead guitarist.
Billiam got a good chance to practice sketching live burlesque go-go girls. To the right you’ll see a couple of Lusty Ladies getting lusty all over the Mezzanine walls. My favorite photo, though, is below. The tall man on the right is not Santa Claus. It’s Bruce Brugmann, lover of print. I call this piece “The B3 Mafia.”
These days, I don’t think there is such a thing as a “hip” party without cupcakes.
Was quite pleased that my nominee, Creme Brulee Cart, catered the event!
The flavor of the evening was Frosted Flakes, which are good crazy, not Glenn Beck crazy.
