This release of the Mayka Mei Media Report inspired by Glee!

GLEE
Last night, about seven or so friends and I chatted over Twitter about how Fox’s new fall show makes us glee ourselves. Unfortunately, the sneak peek is more like a cruel-hearted teaser than the standard opening of a series and we’ll have to “hold on to the feelin’” until fall. Ugh!

In the meantime, you can purchase the singles “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Rehab” on iTunes, download a free copy of the episode, or watch it online. “Don’t Stop Believin’” is pretty much the best, most infectious cover of the Journey song you’ve ever heard, and it is not an overstatement at all to credit its awesomeness to the lovely Lea Michele.

IMG_4532.JPGPoofy Fairy and I saw Lea Michele perform in Spring Awakening in our first trip to Broadway. After the performance, I stalked Lea Michele into the street so that she could sign our programs while Poofy Fairy stayed behind to snap pictures of the other talented stars. This is a story both to plug how cool my life is and to entice you to watch Spring Awakening when you have the chance. Brit Sketch and I have even seen it twice! Even if Melchior didn’t show his ass in the show, I would see it multiple times.

But back to Glee, I think since ABC canned Pushing Daisies, I’ve been missing a sort of silly happy-go-lucky network series with song. Glee makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside (I have heard this from both males and females alike.). It makes me want to join a glee club. I don’t even know if my high school had a glee club, but if I loved then what I love now, I would have ignored my complete lack of singing skills to join it.

Dark Night of the SoulDARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL
Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse

Dark Night of the Soul has gotten some indie blog loving for including a blank CD-R in its packaging. The album has already leaked, but like Radiohead and Girl Talk, Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse show a political leaning toward the digital music-consuming and sharing world at large.

I am now going to take this time to pick out the best lyrics of Iggy Pop’s performance on the album, a song entitled “Pain.” This segment also known as “Iggy Pop is crazy.”

“Look at Jesus and his hair.”

“And all the shiny people stink.”

“I’m a mix of god and monkey.”

A BUGGED OUT MIX
Hot Chip
Remix kings Hot Chip have released a mixtape of the most unexpected material one could imagine. I have had to click back to iTunes multiple times during my listening session to confirm that I am, indeed, listening to Hot Chip. A little bit of Zapp and Roger, a cover of “What a Fool Believes,” – It’s almost as if I am listening to some “lite” rock, less talk radio station. But with lots of bleeps and bloops in between.
