My mom has two huge dogs. One is a Tibetan Mastiff. She’s about 80 pounds and, as a result of abuse and mistreatment, is antisocial. We took her in over two years ago, and it’s taken that long for her to become a one-person dog. She loves my mom. She knows me but does not love me. Even though I’ve informed her time and time again “I’m the one who chose you [from the Tibetan Mastiff Rescue], you know. Mom didn’t even want you,” (totally true) she does not warm up to me any more. It totally doesn’t hurt my feelings at all, no way, absolutely not.
Anyway, Tashi’s a beautiful dog. It’s really depressing to see how guarded she is around her “family.” Especially when everywhere else, there are super social, perfectly adjusted dogs running around or waiting outside of book stores. It’s not her fault, of course. Her lack of trust in people is all due to some asshole who mistook a newly domesticated dog breed for promising line of fighting dogs.
Seeing happy Tibetan Mastiffs like these makes me happy and hopeful:
My mother, on the other hand, pretty much doesn’t care about any of the other dogs in this video, except for the one who shares the same name as her own Tashi:
Tashi Delek is the fastest, cutest, and best all around puppy.
Helena is FAT.
Tyra is an airhead.
She called Tyra an airhead! (Who names their dog Tyra anymore??)
Anyway, this is why you should adopt your puppies from the pound. Think of all the unloved lovables out there. Someone’s got to love them! O-or, you could support your local animal shelter so that pets can be united with new families.
There’s my pretty antisocial girl:
Ignoring you, per usual.
Editor’s Note: “Tashi” means “precious” in Tibetan. Congratulations! Now you know how to be Gollum in Tibetan!
