I didn’t write a traditional Tale from the Club this week, but we’re going to categorize this as such anyway.

SCENE

INT. RETAIL STORE. ONE HOUR TIL CLOSING.

Mayka stands next to a White woman interested in purchasing some goods. White Woman asks Mayka some questions. Mayka and White Woman are standing side by side, separated by White Woman’s young son.

Nerdy Asian Man creates semi-circle with Mayka and White Woman, standing directly across from Mayka. Nerdy Asian Man stares at Mayka with an eager question in his eyes. Mayka finishes answering White Woman’s questions. White Woman walks off to look at other goods. Mayka faces Nerdy Asian Man. Nerdy Asian Man is wearing a pair of broken black-rimmed glasses. Halves of the glasses are held together by Scotch and duct tape wrapped around the bridge.

Mayka: Can I help answer your question now?

NAM: If it were you, would you do your first date on a dating show?

Mayka: Excuse me?

NAM: You know those dating shows they have on TV?

Mayka: Uh huh…

NAM: If you had your chance, would you ever do one of those shows?

Mayka: No. I’m not really into dating. I’d rather date someone I already know within my own circle. Mayka gesticulates “circle.”

NAM: So even if it was your first date, first date, you wouldn’t do it? NAM gesticulates “first date” by holding up index finger.

Mayka: No, I wouldn’t. I just wouldn’t feel comfortable with that.

NAM: Okay.

Nerdy Asian Man walks off to look at other goods.
