New York 2008: Day 1.
I’ve been twittering about my trip so far here: http://twitter.com/theMaykazine. Clickity click to see some one-liners!
In short, it feels like I was last in this city just yesterday, but it’s amply clear that I haven’t regained my bearings on the Big Apple quite yet. Three cramped Delta flights set me up plenty for getting the full feeling of leaving “home,” and after a harrowing subway ride where I didn’t trust my instincts, Poofy Fairy* and I quickly got back into the swing of things at TKTS. It’s what we do when we say we’re going to New York. Though we’ve only traveled here together once before, we have a clear pattern and a clear goal: Consume as much Broadway as we can.
Today you could find a troop of us waiting in line for The Daily Show. Jon Stewart’s eyes met mine and instant magic. Watch the episode featuring Denis Leary (promoting Rescue Me and Recount), and you’ll hear us yelling in the crowd. The episode where they aptly describe Republicans? “Doughy. White. Happy.” – Yeah, that’s the one. (It almost sounds like they’re describing dumplings, doesn’t it?)
In the evening Poofy Fairy and I caught Gina Gershon (Hot!!! Like a cleaned up version of Amy Winehouse.), Christine Baranski (Chicago), and Bradley Whitford (West Wing) in the play (Notice: Not a musical!) Boeing Boeing. It’s romantic comedy about a bachelor’s failed attempts to live a polygamous life where none of his fiancees know about each other. It’s cute for what it is, but as Poofy Fairy and I scanned the crowd and as we merely smiled at some of the jokes while others roared around us, Poofy Fairy declared, “Let’s not see another play until we’re 30.”
The undeniable OMG factor to seeing theatrical productions on Broadway, though, is the unique opportunity to see so many A-list stars on one stage at one time. I’ve always agreed that Gina Gershon has some of the sexiest lips in Hollywood, and tonight, I got to see them in person!

i enjoyed your post. sounds like you really enjoyed your trip in NYC.
